Out and About

Whilst enjoying a stay in the Gallery Apartment, you will have many activities to keep you busy, and many beautiful sights to see. Here are a few of North Berwick’s highlights.

The Royal Burgh of North Berwick is a charming coastal town with a small harbour and excellent sandy beaches, with two defining physical landmarks being the 613ft volcanic crag North Berwick Law, which overlooks the town, and the 315ft Bass Rock, offshore in the Firth of Forth, which is a nature reserve and nesting ground for over 100,000 gannets each summer.

North Berwick has so much to offer during your stay in the area, not least its magical sandy beaches, rocky coastline with picturesque islands close to the shore and of course the pretty, thriving town itself, which has a good variety of shops, bistros, coffee bars & restaurants.

The picturesque old harbour of North Berwick with its fishing boats, yachts and pleasure craft is a wonderful place to stroll or sit and relax. This active fishing port specialises in catching lobsters, crabs and razor clams for restaurants throughout the UK and Europe.

Wildlife Enthusiasts Activities

At the Scottish Seabird Centre, during nesting time, you can watch gannets and puffins close- up using web-cam interactive technology or take a boat ride around The Bass Rock regarded by many as one of the world’s seven wildlife wonders making it a haven for birdwatchers. During October and November the webcam can show close ups of seal babies being born. Special trips can be arranged from North Berwick to land on the Iisle of May, and from Dunbar Harbour to land on Bass Rock, a particular favourite of wildlife photographers.

Just 4 miles from North Berwick, Waterston House also known as The Scottish Birdwatching Resource Centre boasts panoramic views of Aberlady Bay Local Nature Reserve.

The Golf Coast

Golf is one of the main leisure pursuits, with 2 links courses, The Glen Golf Club and North Berwick Golf Club within a short walk, and a further 6 courses within 5 miles. Muirfield Golf Course is situated approximately 6 miles away at Gullane. There is also a putting green by North Berwick golf course for the less serious and younger golfers.

Sporting Activities

Divingcyclingarchery and even go-karting are also to be enjoyed in this beautiful area. There are ample opportunities for hill walking, sea or river angling, as well as the many well preserved castles to visit for those with historic interests.

There is a Sports Centre with swimming pool, squash courts and games hall as well as excellent tennis courts where the East Lothian Open Tennis Tournament is held annually.

Walks

The John Muir Way is a continuous path which extends approximately 73km, which links East Lothian with Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders. Sections of the walk can be picked up from North Berwick to Dunbar to the east or Aberlady to the west. There are many other coastal path walks with spectacular views.

There is something for every age to enjoy in North Berwick, with many visitors returning year after year, so why don't you book your self-catering holiday now and enjoy this idyllic part of Scotland's beautiful south-east coast.
